Print Edition

Agave Print Process Image by Johanna Mueller

I carve high impact polystyrene plastic by hand, using traditional engraving burins. It can take up to an hour to carve a square inch, making the process long and meditative. When the carving is finished I ink the surface and print it on a printing press. The pressure from the printing press transfers the ink from the engraving to the paper, producing the print. The number of times each block is pressed is the edition number. My engravings are editions of 100 or less, printed with rich, oil base black ink.  These editions are not to be confused with digital prints of an original, each artwork is an original impression of the engraved block.  Learn more about my PROCESS.
