Description

The Species Series will donate up to 25% of sales to a wildlife non-profit.  $150 has been donated to Defenders of Wildlife. This series is meant to raise awareness of animals that are endangered, vulnerable or in critical condition on our planet.  Animals in the series are depicted as saintly creatures, with haloes to support their holy and necessary place on this earth.

The Pangolin (species name Manidae) is an incredible insect eating mammal with true scales, which are made of keratin, making it possibly the world’s most trafficked animal due to its use in medicinal remedies especially in Chinese medicine.  As Asian pangolins are rapidly decreasing, poachers are now hunting the African species. As National Geographic reveals, “In two record-breaking seizures in the space of a week in April 2019, Singapore seized a 14.2-ton shipment and and a 14-ton shipment of pangolin scales- from an estimated 72,000 pangolins- coming from Nigeria.”  (https://www.nationalgeographic.com/animals/mammals/group/pangolins/).
